non stick spray and your pans

by Michelle on August 11, 2008

I had purchased some higher priced cookware last year and  continued to use the very convienent non stick spray on my pans. Over a short period of time I began to notice that my pans were sticking and they shouldnt have been.

At first I thought it was the pans, I couldnt figure out what was happening. I mostly used the spray on my frying pans. So I went out and bought 2 more frying pans, along with them came a note to not use the non stick spray , that is left a deposit over time and the non stick surface would no longer work right. Wish I had known that before.

So I unknowningly tested this theory, yet again. I thought I told everyone in the house not to use the spray in the frying pans any more. Somehow my daughter must have forgotten and began using it in the large frying pan. She never used the small frying pan.

So here I am just a couple of months later and the small pan never had non stick spray in it, is just fine and the large pan , well now everything sticks to it.

I am disappointed that I my new 50.00 circulon pan is now ruined. I will not buy anymore non stick spray for anything and will be replacing my pans for the last time.

I just wanted to share this info incase you find yourself with the same problem

What is Failure?

by Michelle on August 8, 2008

I have been giving this word some thought.

This is another topic my daughter and I were talking about the other day as she works to find what keeps her from her goals.

She said she thinks she is afraid of failure! Sounds logical at first doesn’t it. Who isn’t in some small way afraid of failing. None of us really wants fail.

But then do we not have to define failure to know just what it is we are afraid of?

I must ask the question, If you are trying and doing something are you not succeeding? Learning? Moving ahead in your goals? Are these all not good things?

And if you are moving ahead, learning and doing then you are getting closer and closer to your goal each time. So this is a good thing.

Seth Godin had a quote on his blog a while back that said

“Persistence isn’t using the same tactics over and over. That’s just annoying.

Persistence is having the same goal over and over.”

So if you aren’t afraid of hard work, learning, re-evaluting as you go along, and sticking to it then where does failure have a place in the learning process?

Possibly we have not taken the time to define failure in respect to what it is we want and are willing to do to get it.

I look at each phase of the process as learning. Some things propel me forward and others give me cause to rethink them and come back with another approach. All of which I consider just part of learning how to achieve the things we want.

Persistence keeps me moving forward. Working on things is sizable chunks, evaluating as I go along and open to adjusting as the need arises, so that I may reach my intended goal.

The word failure has an ominous feel to it, kind of a big dark cloud that intangibly covers a lot of things and anytime we cant go on, for what ever reason, we chalk it up to failure.

I believe the only failure in life it the failure to act. If you aren’t doing anything, then you fail by default.

Everything else is an opportunity. An opportunity to learn, to try again, to keep at it, to look at it from another angle, to persist until you get it. To learn…..

Then do we really fail? I dont think so. I believe we just need to clarify that ominous cloud we call failure and break it down so we can see clear the way for success.

By defining failure and giving it a more realistic perspective we take away its power over us to never start.

How do you define failure? Share your thoughts and fears…

Focus!

by Michelle on August 7, 2008

Don’t we all wish we could do that better at times. And some of us do it better than others. The ability to stay focused is what keeps you going on the task at hand. So why do some of us have so much trouble doing it.

Well there are lots of reasons. For me being a creative person one thing is that I like to do alot. There are the things I like to do, things I have to do,  things I want to learn how to do…..oh there is a long list.

So how are we ever going to get ahead or even get there if we keep filling up our plates with so many things. This is another topic my daughter and I discuss in depth, as we both have the same kid in the candy store eyes when it comes to doing it all. Yup we want to try each one!

I also have to think if I go there, doing it all, I will get a little bit done here and there on lots of things but no real progress will be made in any one thing because I have too much on my plate.

The question I need to ask myself is what do I really want on my plate and then put my all into that and don’t let myself become distracted. That can be a task in itself!

There are so many things in the world that distract us. There’s the other things I want to do, life tasks that if I let them can keep me from getting things done as well. You can busy yourself with a lot of details and tasks if you want, all the while making excuses as to why you didn’t get it done today. The days will wizz by and you will feel more and more frustrated at yourself.

It’s not the tasks that are keeping you from staying on track and focusing you energies, it’s you!

I had to come to that realization if I was going to get anywhere in my business. I have to priortize my tasks and focus. Put hours into my work and not let anything get into that time. Then stop at the end of the day and use that time to get the other things in life done.

At first I thought that I would be letting things go and not have enough time in a day to do it all. But that was not the case. I devoted the time to my business needs and then stopped and tended to my life needs. I actually felt more energized at the end of the day. I had accomplished things and was able to put the same energy and focus into my life things, get them done and be ready for the next day. It worked out better than I had thought.

I also have to say I did eliminate some things from my day, I don’t watch a lot of TV, I would rather be doing something else, I don’t read the newspapers a whole lot, I find it much less stressful this way. I don’t answer the phone when  I am working, I let the answering machine get it. It is an emergency or needs immediate attention I can stop and take care of it, otherwise I continue to work. I clean at the end of the day and I don’t let those things bother me, I work better in the early part of the day.

Occasionally a day does get away from me, sometimes you cant avoid that but then i just get right back in the groove and get back to work.

These are the thoughts that I am pondering as my summer comes to an end and I can get back to some sort of schedule in my day again that works better. I evaluate where I can improve and work harder to move my business goals forward.

As I said my year begins anew every September.

I am counting the days….School starts the day after my birthday, my birthday is Aug.25th. A gal couldnt ask for a better birthday present but to get her day back!……
