You know I love being able to put patterns together in a digital format.
It allows me so much more freedom than the traditional patterns that you purchase in the store. When you create traditional patterns you have to consider many things, how many images (I should say technical drawings) how much words, how much paper its going to take up in the printing expenses, shipping. It all factors into streamlining the pattern to its absolute minimum for it to be cost effective on both the production end and the consumer end.
And over the many years I have been sewing, I must say that there were many times the instructions and those “wonderful” line drawings left me scratching my head. I am sure that many of you have experienced the same thing.
Now with digital patterns, e-patterns in pdf format we all get the best of both worlds. I as a designer can really make use of this new cost effective way to bring you a lesson in a pattern. Because I dont have to worry about the cost of printing and shippping this pattern, I can give you lots of info, lots of “PHOTOS” not line drawings that will help you every step of the way. So I know when I put my patterns out there I have given you every bit of information I have on how to make my pattern, how to think thru the process.
What do you get? You get to have your pattern right away, you get to save it on your computer, print it whenever you need it. No looking all over for that pattern you bought 3 months ago, it’s readily available, print as many pattern pieces as you need, low cost and no shipping, and you get more step by step photos than you could possibly get in a book or pattern packet!
E-Patterns also allows me the freedom to develop patterns on lots of things, from kids to simple beginner, to fun and funky etc, since the cost factor of printing and getting this to the stores is not a problem. I can design more freely and more affordably.
That is just what I plan to do. Give you lots of patterns so you have a nice variety of choices. I am so excited about all the new things I want to bring to the studio shop. I need 2 more of me to get it all done.
Now with this in mind, that fact that I plan on growing and expanding I needed to think about how best to deliver my products to you, so I have been busy this week in setting up a new shopping cart system that will allow more convenient delivery of my downloadable patterns.
Setting up a cart system, integrating it into the site is a feat and not a small one. So I will be opening the new store shortly. I also hope to invite other designers to sell at the Studio so that you have a nice variety of e- patterns to choose from.
Pattern updates: Lizzy’s pattern is just one lesson away from being ready for purchase. I also have some funky cat quilt patterns and some snow man quilt patterns, small wall hangings that I would like to get together and the Kids Korner team has settled in from school now and we can get back to the business of developing some more kid friendly patterns.
I also had a request for a snail pattern, so I have the preliminaries going, I think it will be a snail bag, possibly a stuffed snail. I am always interested in what you are interested in for patterns, if you have been looking for something and cant find it, I love to take those ideas and see what I can do with them, so share your wants with me I want to know!
