Elephant Ears in the garden

August 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I saw these fantastic plants last year in someone’s yard in the city. I was amazed at the size of these leaves, I had never seen anything that huge before. So this year when we were collecting plants for our summer garden we couldnt resist adding one of these Elephant Ear plants to it.

The largest leaf on this plant is about 2 feet long by 1 foot wide and still growing. What fantastic leaves! I would have one of these every year.

They even look interesting from the back side, all the thick veins and stems.

Another new plant in the garden this year is a Fire colored Hibiscus and I am pleased to say it has finally bloomed. Did you know that hibiscus flowers only last one day? I didnt know that until I grew one. Big bright red flowers grace this plant.

Can you imagine a whole bush of these? And red is my favorite color!

Just wanted to share my favorite garden picks with you. What is your favorite thing in your garden. What plant do you like best?

I just found your blog. I too have Elephant Ears in my yard along with hibiscus. Did you know that the Elephant Ears will return every year. No need to replant. Just cut them down at the end of the season.
