Focus is my word this year

January 10th, 2008 · 2 Comments

When the new year comes around we all tend to think about things we would like to see happen in the coming year. We always give hope to the new year yielding better things that the old year. And somehow we hope we are a bit luckier, a bit smarter than we were last year.

But just like wishing we could lose weight, it doesn’t come without hard work, commitment and the ability to FOCUS our energies on the things we want to see more of in our daily lives.

So this year I have given some thought to my life, both personal and creative, and had to think if I had to sum it all up in one word what would I want to bring more of to my life? I choose the word FOCUS!

For me that conjures up a variety of things I need to work on, but I find it easier to use one motivating word to put me back on track rather than trying to accomplish so many things I most likely wind up changing very little.

So what do I need to focus on….

I need to keep my creative energy focused on my patterns and classes that I design. In doing that I also need to not let other things that catch my creative eye derail me from my goal. As a creative person it is so easy, I am sometimes like a kid in a candy store, I want to sample one of everything, and creatively while that can be fun, it kind of takes away precious time I should be using to build my business stronger. It is so easy to get sidetracked in life and work that sometimes I don’t even think we realize how far from out road we strayed until we are way out there.

I also need to focus on eliminating the negative from my life. I want to push those little buggers out before they even get a chance to get comfortable. That will take a bit more effort. I think that sometimes those negative thoughts and quiet voices we all hear, rent space in our heads and we get so used to them being there that we don’t even take notice of how destructive they can be to reaching our goals.

Those are the two things I will put my focus on, as I have learned in the past the more you put on your plate to resolve yourself to do, the more you might wind up doing very little or nothing. At least that is the way it is for me.

With all of lifes challenges both personal and work wise I do believe that will be a good accomplishment if I can keep at it for the year. It is said what you put out into the world you get back! I will be focusing on being more aware of what I put out into the world to make it the best I can and will be working to leave the old stuff behind.

Very well said - and my sentiments exactly. Sometimes I think I have adult-onset ADD. In this new year, I too am committing to staying on task with my patterns and business. And I’m also eliminating negativity. I anticipate 2008 to be the best year yet!

Some days I think that too. I was watching 20/20 last night and it was about happy. The happiest people in the world, what makes people happy and the conclusion was that you are in the most control of your happiness.
You can think your way happy if you want. You life circumstances only made up for 10% of your happiness, your personal attitude counted for 40% of your happiness.
So this year my 40% will be ridding myself of the negative, slimming down the worrying, and putting my attitude where I want it to be.
