How to make french knots

July 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment

As part of out Kids Korner/Beginner Sewing we like to offer some simple stitch and how to tutorials that you can use in your sewing projects.

Todays stitch is how to make French Knots. They are really easy and they can be used in many ways.

step 1:

Make a knot in the thread and bring the thread up from behind into the fabric. Keep the thread behind the needle as shown in step 1

step 2:

wrap the thread around the needle 3 times, be sure to keep the thread taught.

step 3:

gently pull the needle back so that the thread that is wrapped around it sits close to the tip of the needle.

push the needle back down into the fabric, next to where you came up with the needle.

step 4:

Be sure to hold the thread taught as you pull the needle through. This will keep the wrapped thread positioned on the needle tightly and make a nice french knot. Pull the needle all the way through to the other side.

And you should have a nice french knot. You might have to practice this a couple of times to get the feel of wrapping the thread and holding it taught as you pull through. Its a fun stitch to do. And now you have a nice little french knot.
