About Kids Korner and beginner sewing patterns

The one thing I have enjoyed immensely through my whole life is my sewing skills. I have made everything from clothes, costumes, curtains, cushion covers, quilts, crafts and much, much more. When I wanted to change the look of a room I started with some fabric and went from there.

I want to share this joy with you, I want my kids and your kids to learn a skill they can enjoy for life. And every time I went to the craft stores I found the same lack of quality projects that required little more than gluing and or stringing skills. And while these have their place, they don’t teach kids skills, they are just a quick something to do. I was not only disappointed in what was available but many times it was a waste of my money.

Because of this, I decided to create some activities and projects for them that I thought would build on their skills and knowledge, as well as giving them completed project they could be proudly use or give as gifts. I started with my daughters and they began to have so much fun being able to sew real usable things, that I decided to create a line of patterns and how to’s for all kids that will keep them engaged and learning.

I know my daughters are really enjoying learning their new skills and they have a level of pride when they complete a project, that I never saw with any store bought craft project.

I have been designing and making various craft projects, art and fiberart for many years, and now I work to transfer this skill into my children. Too many children today are growing up without having aunties or grandmas to teach them the skills we took for granted. But they are hungry for learning something with some substance.

Here at Kids Korner you will find projects that will be fun for you and your child to do together. And as they build skills and confidence they can soon create many of the projects on their own.

Our goal is to teach them to focus and work on projects that require more of their time and effort to complete. By teaching them a skill that they can build on rather than a quick one hour craft project, you are not only giving them a gift for life, but you teach them the value of hard work, appreciating and exploring their own unique creativity and the art of delayed gratification.
