Meet the team

Meet the Team!

First there is me, the head honcho here at Studio-259, backed by my financial support (hubby) who lovingly supports everything I do.

Then there is the top of the team! Roberta (11) and Abi(8) , my Kids Korner Production Team/designers and testers! They make sure each project is fun, colorful and something they can both do.I watch for their mark of approval before I release any kid friendly patterns. The BIG smile I get when they are done with the projects and love what they have made, are my clue to a good project.

The patterns

  • Our patterns are all published in pdf format. That means they are downloadable files you view on Adobe’s Acrobat Reader, a free viewer you can find here .

Why pdf format you ask?

  • Because I want to show you, rather than tell you, how to sew all the great projects I am working on this year!
  • Printed patterns have lots of cost involved in getting the text and pictures to paper and are limiting in the amount of information and pictures you can include and afford to print and mail.
  • Another thing is to me many patterns truthfully have left me saying, what do they mean?
  • They often have confusing instructions and drawings that often fall short of showing me what it is I need to do.

That can make it difficult for anyone to learn to sew!

By providing a pattern in a pdf format where you can download the file allows me toshow you in photos that go step by step to show you exactly what you should do.

Haven’t you ever found yourself saying if I could just see someone do this, I would get it? Well now you can.

That is what makes pdf files a fantastic way to teach you how to sew!

Why did I start Kids Korner?

Honestly? Because I find that many of the projects I find in my local stores leave me wanting more than a quick craft to keep them busy for a short while. Those quick craft do serve their purpose but something with more to it would be nice.

I want to pass on my passion, my skills, my enjoyment that I get when I sit down to make something. I also want to provide patterns that even moms who dont know how to sew can sit down with their children and tackle a new project, feel confident in doing so and create something new and fun together.

  • I want quality functional items that can be used and enjoyed for years to come.
  • I want to teach skills that grow into a desire for more and I want them to complete projects that they are proud of!
  • And most of all I want it to be fun!

Kids want to make what we make only on their level and that is what I hope to bring to the patterns I develop.

What will they learn?

First they will learn a skill that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.

I learned to sew when I was 10 and it has been something I enjoyed my whole life.

They will learn to focus! By giving them projects they can create and be proud of, projects that require them to do some work and learn a skill and then come back and do some more work , teach them to build on a process. They can actually watch their creations come to life and the excitement of all their hard work coming together before their eyes.

And in an instant society, like the one we have today, where everyone wants it now, learning to focus and take your time, to me is a good skill to teach our children.

They will also learn how to explore and awaken their own unique creativity!

To me there is no greater gift I can give them than the ability to live a life creatively!

  • To have fun making things
  • putting a bit of themselves in each project
  • to encourage them to play with color and shape and come up with their own ideas and designs that they want to make

How great is that when we can offer them the freedom to express themselves from within!

  • Growing a hobby or interest that teaches us to take time for ourselves so that we can enjoy our own unique selves and is truly a gift! And one that starts in childhood, we plant the seeds and they grow from there. I want to help you plant those seeds!

And because sewing takes time whether it is hand or machine sewing, in order to get to the finished project they have to invest themselves and in doing and so also learn the art of delayed gratification!

That good things are worth working for and waiting for! Another great set of values to teach all children today. And I cant think of a better way to do that than through the process of creating fun, functional and quality projects they are proud of!

  • Using art to teach them such great values is a fantastic way to help them grow!
  • Kids want to share their work with everyone And we are going to do just that! In the most safe way that we possibly can.
  • And kids want to show off their projects and we want them too, that encourages them do want to do more. And for that we have a flickr gallery where you can help kids can share photos of the projects they have completed.

I know my kids are always asking, can I have my stuff online, can I show everyone what I am doing. They are proud of their accomplishments and want to share it with the world and so do I.

But I also know the internet is this big scary place when it comes to kids and their safety is my first priority too! That’s why any photos of completed projects by kids must be submitted by an adult. We would like to post a first name, age and a state, so we can see kids from all over who are having fun and making great new things.

Are you homeschooling ?

Looking for quality projects to fit your curriculum? I am working on that too! Sewing can fit the visual arts part of your art needs.

Kids learn creativity, design, color, design elements like line, form, harmony and more

  • Do you have a need for a specific project and cant find anything, well then ask me.
  • I would be thrilled to develop projects that fit the needs of home school families. Simply contact me at kidskorner259@gmail.com and let me know what your needs are.

How will I know when new projects are available?

Thats simple, either subscribe to this blog by clicking on the rss at the top of the blog. I will post all new patterns and info here on the blog as it becomes available. The site map will help you find the things you want on Studio-259.

Or you can subscribe to the mail list for Kids Korner. This list will be used to announce new projects and news as they become available in the studio. I will never share your info with anyone ever! And I only send out newsletters when I have things to share. I hope to build this newsletter into a regular feature in time that will provide great fun things for you and your children. In the meantime, this will keep you up on new projects at Kids Korner!
