Running stitch with variations

Running stitch is an easy stitch to do. Simply go in and out about 3 stitches on a needle as you see in the photo above.
Pull the thread thru and make a few more stitches. Try to keep the the same size, you should now have a line of stitches like the photo above.
You can add some character to this stitch by taking a contrasting thread and go under each stitch as you see in the photo above. You are not going thru the fabric only under the first running stitch you made. And you are going under each stitch from the same direction each time.
After you go under each stitch you get a pattern that looks like the photo above.
You can also vary this stitch another way. First make a row of running stitches.
Then put the thread under the stitch going up, then under the stitch going down through the next stitch
This up and down method of putting the stitches under the first running stitches produces a more wavy pattern.
This stitch is simple and the variations easy and make a good stitch to use for teaching kids some beginner hand stitching.
