I have loved sewing since I was 10 and my mother taught me to sew. I love fabric, I love creating, I love that I can take a flat piece of material and after a bit of time at the machine I can turn it into something! It is such a great feeling! I still smile after all these years each time I create something new. I want to share that with you!
I also run into people all the time who say, oh I cant sew, I dont know how to do that. It’s so hard.
I want to change that! I want to show you sewing can be fun. I want to do that by giving you projects that are fun to make. You dont have just be making clothes to have fun sewing. There are tons of other things to sew. I also want to inspire you to share these projects with your children.
I know there are lots of craft projects available in the stores, but in my humble opinion, many of them are quickie crafts that don’t teach skills to build on.
When I am sewing, my kids don’t want to make the quicky crafts, they want to make the things I make, or at least something close. I am sure yours do to.
So rather than waste my money on those other projects, I am working to design projects from the simple to the intermediate level. Projects you can make and your children can make in their own fashion.
I also went out on the internet to see what I could find that would inspire my kids to want to sew, and I have to say I was disappointed in many of the projects I came across. That has also fueled my energy to create a line of projects that fit into the Studio-259 Sew Simple line of patterns. Some of those projects will be for purchase in the shop and others will be free on the site for you.
I will also add more to the tutorials section of this blog. Tutorials that cover some great hand stitching that is so much fun to do with felt, as well as others.
Now there is another side to me that loves art quilting as well, I love to put together fun fabrics and create texture with the quilting stitch and right now I am having fun with doing that on handbags and totes. I have my animal series as well as several new ideas that I will be cooking up soon. This allows me to work with both sides of my creativity. I am developing a series of art quilt bag patterns that I hope enthuse you with the sewing bug and show all the wonderful things you can make.
I am even considering a wild kitty block of the month series, where I will develop a wild kitty in my bold whimsical style and release a new one each month.
So here on this blog you will see a variety of posts, some days it will be beginner/kid korner related and other days it will be more art quilt related. A little something for everyone, because it allows me to have some variety in the projects I work on, one kind of feeds the other. I work better with several projects on my plate at once.
I invite you to join in, start a conversation, ask questions, request a design you would like to see, etc. This is something I have always wanted to do, share my passion. This blog and my Studio-259 site gives me an opportunity to do that. I have a lot in store for you this year so bookmark this blog and visit often, there is some funky fun stuff ahead.
